Us and Them
Back in 1998 to 2004 Joe pyle was promoting professional boxing shows under the name Joe Pyle promotions. It was a great time where boxing events were staged at all the premier London hotels as well as Wembley conference centre, York Hall and the now famous Equinox shows, we promoted World title fights, European and British titles.
During this time two promoters Alan Mortlock (IBA) and Ricky English (EBF) were promoting unlicensed boxing.
Today we have loads of different outfits up and down the country all trying their hand at what is commonly known as ‘unlicensed’ boxing.
In 2004 Joe Pyle formed MeanMachine promotions named after the nickname of Roy MeanMachine Shaw, Meanmachine promotions teamed up with Ricky English and together until 2008 they staged over fifty boxing promotions together featuring hundreds of boxers.
Meanmachine Promotions and Ricky English promotions split in early 2009 and both went their own way, since then MeanMachine promotions has aligned itself with the EBC (Empire Boxing Council)
Semi_Pro Boxing
The term Semi-Pro boxing was created by MeanMachine and Ricky English in 2008, the reason was because it was becoming difficult promoting shows that were branded as ‘unlicensed’ as many councils objected to venues asking for licenses.
The word unlicensed boxing makes it sound illegal which it never was but regardless councils and managers of venues are afraid of the name.
Today there are numerous promotional groups all advertising semi-pro boxing and saying they are the number 1 organisation and that they own the name which is complete cobblers. (And by the way as to this time of writing they have only ever promoted one event)
One group is even saying they have copyrighted the name semi pro, which again is complete cobblers and an impossibility yet they still keep spouting stupid lies.
At Meanmachine we hope our record of promoting boxing events over the last twelve years is all the credentials we need. We are also the first semi pro promoters to publish and update our own list of boxers rankings.
In 2010 Meanmachine together with Alan Mortlock will be looking at forming our own semi Pro boxing board as there has now become a need to regulate who boxes for us and give the boxers a chance to box more frequently.
If anyone is reading this and thinking about joining the semi pro boxing game please remember that we have been promoting for a long time and what other promoters are offering you was originally our idea’s.
We have seen so many company’s come and go, they look at what we are doing and think its easy, believe me its not, they promise this and that but soon fade away once they get a few problems, most owing everyone money.
So when someone keeps ramming it down your ear that they are the best then its probably because they are not, records and history don’t lie, only greedy snidy bastards do.
